We Did It!!

We did it!

We had a fantastic moving performance of the Cantata Memoria in Carnegie Hall.

The orchestra was great and so were the instrumental and vocal soloists. And we did ourselves proud!

It is hard to describe how it feels to be performing on such an iconic stage for an audience of over two and a half thousand people.

We were well prepared by Chris to the extend that a large number of us – including myself – confidently left our scores in the hotel room and performed the whole cantata from memory. I had never thought we could do that, but we did. It is in a way bad luck for people who were not with us now, because obviously we will require the performance in Nelson in October to be without scores.

Afterwards we had a gala dinner with all over 300 performers and during that

the conductor – Dr. Jonathan Griffith – announced that he will travel to Nelson in October to conduct the New Zealand premiere of the work. I had arranged that with him the day before. Sir Karl Jenkins is seriously thinking about coming to Nelson as well. He told me he likes rugby so that in itself is reason enough to travel to New Zealand.

The atmosphere at the gala was fantastic. Many choirs performed “spontaneously” the most beautiful a capella songs. We have a long way to go before we could do that!

All in all an unforgettable experience!!
