A MYSTIC CHRISTMAS

December 4th and 5th 2026 at Nelson Cathedral

Welcome to A Mystic Christmas, a festive celebration presented by the Nelson Civic Choir and orchestra under the direction of  Jason Balla. The programme journeys from the radiant joy of beloved traditional carols to moments of stillness, mystery and reflection, brought to life through expressive choral writing, orchestral colour and the brilliance of the organ. We are delighted to welcome soprano Katherine Winitana and tenor Ipu Laga’aia, whose solo and duet performances add warmth and lyricism to the evening. Familiar favourites sit alongside contemporary arrangements and newer works, inviting us to hear the music of Christmas afresh. May these melodies, harmonies and timeless stories awaken wonder, offer peace and fill this shared occasion with the generous spirit of the season.

Nelson Cathedral provides the perfect setting for a concert of sublime and moving seasonal music presented by the Nelson Civic Choir. Sit back and enjoy the sights and sounds of this magnificent building filled with festive trees and uplifting choral sounds.
